“El Verbo Simple” is a hypercard stack designed to assist with Spanish Verb Conjugations. It has a dictionary of 250 Spanish verbs complete with a conjugator. In addition, online reference cards are also provided for each verb tense. To assist in learning the conjugations, a quizzer is included which is easily customized to work on certain weakness.

The dictionary of verbs provided contains those that are frequently encountered. The built in conjugator allows the verbs to be conjugated in 6 different persons and 17 different Spanish tenses! To conjugate a verb, simply click the tabs at the bottom of the card containing the different tenses. The Subjunctive, Present, and Compound tenses all have pop-up menus. Press and hold the mouse while moving the pointer over the tense you want.Then release the button. The pop-up menus behave like standard Apple pop-up menus. The Conjugator has an extensive rule system it follows when conjugating. This includes orthographic spelling changes and stem changes. All irregular verbs are caught in 15 different tenses!

--Look For... Button
This allows you to search for any English definition or Spanish Verb contained in the stack. The Find command will match all occurrences. For instance, if you search for the word "play" you will be taken to Jugar meaning to play. If you search again, you will be taken to Tocar which means to play an instrument. If you hear a beep, it signals the verb or definition could not be found or another occurrence of the same search string was not found.

This allows you to alphabetize the cards either by Spanish verb or English definition.
*Adding New Cards To The Dictionary
Because the routines for conjugating the verbs are stored, the stack is readily expandable. Take note of the following instances:
--Stem Changes: When denoting a stem changing verb, simply include the stem change in () next to the verb. Example: (e-ie). The stem changes will then be performed, subject to the rules governing the tense.
--Present Tense Irregularities: The conjugator will not correctly conjugate verbs that have a radical change in the first person. Example: Hacer-->Hago
--Preterite Irregularities: For the Preterite, irregular radical stems are not performed. Example: Andar--> Anduve,Anduviste,etc.
--Past Participle Irregularities: The stack contains most verbs that have an irregular Past Participle. If you suspect a verb has an irregular past participle, it should be listed in any Spanish dicitionary.
To override the built in conjugator for the past, preterite, and past participle, simply click the corresponding irregular button and enter the conjugation manually. It will be stored and retrieved when the verb is conjugated in that tense. This irregular information will automatically be applied to other tenses if necessary.

The reference cards give English translations and general usage rules. The More Info button in the dictionary will take you directly to the corresponding card dealing with the current verb conjugation. Using the arrows you can browse around to the other information cards. Clicking the tabs containing the various tenses will take you to the first card dealing with that tense. Some tenses have only one card while others may have more.

The Conjugation Quizzer allows drill to master those troublesome conjugations. You can easily customize the quiz by selecting the subjects and tenses you want to be tested on. This allows you to specifically target your weaknesses. Enter your answer in the box and press return. If you need to add an accent to a letter, simply type OPTION-E and then the letter. To get an (ñ), type OPTION-N and then N. When a stem changing verb is quizzed, only the infinitive is shown. The stem changing flag (i-ie), etc. is omitted. A score box keeps track of correct and incorrect responses. If you would like to start over, the cross mark resets the quiz. This comes in useful if you decide to change the subjects and verb tenses that you are being tested over.
